Coelophysoids are a taxon of theopods, they are considered one of most primitive of dinosaurs. They appeared at the end of the Triassic, but by the middle Jurassic they became replaced by more advanced dinosaurs.

They have been suggested to be heron-like waders on at least one occassion, as implied in the first episode of Sea Monsters, although this hasn't been proven.

Physical traitsEdit

All Coelophysoids were slender, carnivorous dinosaurs with a superficial similarity to the coelurosaurs, with which they were formerly classified, and some species had delicate cranial crests. Sizes range from about 1 to 6 m in length. It is unknown what kind of external covering coelophysoids had, and various artists have portrayed them as either scaly or feathered. But since they died out long before birds evolved, the scale covering is most likely.

Well-known examples of coelophysoids include CoelophysisProcompsognathus, Dilophosaurus and Liliensternus.

In Walking with... seriesEdit

Walking with DinosaursEdit

New BloodEdit

Coelophysis was the main focus of this episode.

Sea MonstersEdit

Sea Monsters, Episode 1Edit

A coelophysoid dinosaur, based on Coelophysis from WWD, appeared in the second half of this episode, combing the beach. Although, strangely, it was labeled a Coelurosaur. Possibly referencing the miscategorization during the beginning of paleontology.
