Iguanodon-log-1

An Iguanodont injured by a Giganotosaurus. (Land of Giants)

This unidentified iguanodont, which is likely based on footprints of large ornithopods found in South America, lived in Patagonia during the Middle to Late Cretaceous period in Patagonia.

Facts[]

The iguanodont is shown as prey to larger predators like the giant theropod Giganotosaurus and the crocodylian Sarcosuchus.

Land of Giants[]

When Nigel Marven entered the Cretaceous, he spooked and scared away a herd of iguanodonts by accident. The next day, Nigel saw one of them fleeing and followed a trail of blood running down a stream. He found a severely injured iguanodont lying down to recover from its wounds. He later saw a Giganotosaurus feeding on its baby. It then held it aloft and carried it away.

Whilst driving through open plains, Nigel saw an iguanodont running beside his vehicle. He then looked behind him and saw the reason why it was running - a Giganotosaurus was chasing it down.

Trivia[]

  • It uses a recycled model of Iguanodon. The color was just changed.
  • While the South American iguanodont was left unidentified in Chased by Dinosaurus, some believe the identity of it to be Macrogryphosaurus, an elasmarian iguanodont that lived in Argentina during the Late Cretaceous.
    • The reason it was left unidentified is because Macrogryphosaurus wasn't described until 2007, only four years after Land of Giants aired.
