Giant Weta are a group of insect species that live in New Zealand. Looking distantly like the more common grasshoppers and crickets, they belong to their own family, and are considered to be living fossils. In the fifth episode of Walking with Dinosaurs, we see a Tuatara successfully ambush and eat a weta (in live footage, for the tuatara is another living fossil from the Mesozoic Era that still exists today), and then another weta is shown frozen in a New Zealand winter and thaw in spring, also shot live.
