Sauroposeidon, named after the Greek god of the sea, was one of the biggest dinosaurs of the early Cretaceous North America. It is also known as Paluxysaurus ("lizard of the Paluxy river").

Sauroposeidon was a sauropod dinosaur, and at 30 m in length, it was one of the biggest, especially for its time. However, it wasn't the biggest sauropod - others, like Argentinosaurus, were even more massive.

There is some argument about Sauroposeidon's classification - most believe that it was a Macronarian, just as Brachiosaurus from the Jurassic was. Others think that it was an early species of titanosaur instead.
