Sordes was a small pterosaur from the late Jurassic (Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian) Karabastau Svita of Kazakhstan. It was mentioned in the Rhamphorhynchus entry in The Complete Guide To Prehistoric Life.


Sordes Pilosus was discovered in 1970s and the fossil was shown possessing a dense layer of fur on its body, which settled the question as to whether or not pterosaurs were hairy or not. This made the paleontologists realise that the pterosaurs were warm-blooded animals, capable of powered flight
