Every wiki in existence has a set of guidelines when it comes to editing. Editing is the key aspect of wikis and without it, wikis would be completely blank.

Although we encourage editing, we have a special set of rules and regulations to make sure all edits here are of good faith and are actually useful to the wiki rather than a cluster of characters.

Article Presentation

Articles are the staple content of every wiki. They provide all of the necessary information a reader will need to know about the topic they're reading. However, the article's presentation determines how effective the article's information is conveyed to the reader. Articles that are poorly written and formatted do not convey information well to their audiences. Therefore, all articles on the wiki should follow a standard format and have or meet the following items:

• An infobox with an image.
• If an article has no infobox, add one by clicking "Infobox" under the "Insert" tab in the visual editor.
• If an article lacks an associated image, improvise.
• Use either a photograph of a skeleton or an artist's reconstruction if the article is about an animal. If the article is about a cast member or a member of the development team, use an image of the person from somewhere else.
• More than 500 bytes of data.
• If an article is less than 500 bytes, then it is a stub and the stub template should be added to the very top of the article page.
• The stub template can be added by typing Stub in the source editor.
• A small amount or no red links.
• If a page has red links, either remove the broken link(s) or create the page the link is linking to.
• The article name in bold at the beginning of the article.
• Correct spelling and grammar.
• Use punctuation correctly.
• Use captial letters at the beginning of sentences and at the beginning of names.
• Use paragraphs to organize information.

Language & Writing Style

Language refers to the method of communication used to convey information from one party to another. It is how we express our thoughts or share ideas with one another.

• English is the standard language used on Walking With Wikis.
• However, when writing, users must refrain from using slang terms and abbreviated phrases.
• Using slang terms and abbreviated phrases in articles will confuse readers who are not familiar with those terms or phrases, and ineffectively convey information to readers.
• Examples of slang terms:
• snoot (snout)
• smol (small)
• dope (cool; awesome)
• Examples of abbreviated phrases:
• LOL (laughing out loud)
• BTW (by the way)
• IMO (in my opinion)

Creature articles

Creature articles are quite simple to write compared to some of the other articles on the wiki and are probably the most important part of it, as the creatures are the most well-known and enjoyed aspect of Walking with....

• At the start of each creature article, there should be an infobox. As we have several individual infoboxes for each different category of article, it is important that you use the "Infobox creature" template. To insert it quickly, go into Source mode and type Infobox creature. You can then edit it easily in Visual mode.
• In the "image" section, you put in what image you want to represent the article. To do this properly, you add: [[File:[insert file name].[insert file type]|270px]].
• Do not change the pixel size to anything lower or higher than 270px.
• In the "name" section, type the creature's name in.
• In the "att" section, type in the creature's primary attributes. That includes key physical features and typical behaviour. Separate each attribute with a semicolon (;).
• In the "diet" section, type in the creature's primary diet.
• For carnivores, you can write what specific animals it eats and end it with "other animals". Separate each food item with a semicolon.
• For herbivores, you can just write "Vegetation".
• In the "range" section, type in where the creature is from. If possible, write down the locations listed in The Complete Guide to Prehistoric Life rather than the locations in the real world.
• In the "time" section, type in the time range of the creature. Write down the name of the period the creature lived in. Separated by <br>, write down the exact time (as in "mya" or "years ago") the creature lived in.
• In the "othern" section, type in other names the creature is referred to in Walking with....
• In the "individual" section, type in any notable or named individuals of that creature genus that appeared in Walking with....
• In the "appearances" section, type in all the appearances the creature made in the TV series.

Once the infobox has been set up, it is time to add some information to the article.

• Every article should have a top description that introduces the article's subject.
• The article's subject should be bolded.
• Each article should have the following sections and sub-sections:
• Creature Attributes
• Physical Appearance and biology
• Behaviour and traits
• In Series Name or In the Series
• Episode Name
• Other Appearances
• Errors
• Gallery
• Behind the Scenes
• List of appearances
• Notes and references
• At the very end of each article, insert an Animal Group List template
• Example, members of Tyrannosauridae group use the Tyrannosaurs template.
• At the very end of each article, insert a Series Creatures List template.
• Each series has its own creature template (i.e., Walking with Dinosaurs uses the template.)

Creature names

Binomial nomenclature is the formal system of naming species by giving them a two-part name. This two-part name, called a Latin name or scientific name, is composed of a generic name and a specific name. When it comes to writing binomial names, there are several set of rules that must be followed:

• The first letter of a species' generic name must be capitalized.
• The first letter of a species' specific name must remain lowercase.
• All mentioned of a creature's scientific name must be italicized.
• Examples: Arsinoitherium, Tyrannosaurus rex
• Common names are not scientific names, and thus must not be italicized.
• Examples: Woolly mammoth, Cave lion
• After a creature's full binomial name is introduced, the name can be abbreviated in subsequent mentions.
• Only the generic name should be abbreviated.
• Example: Tyrannosaurus rex to T. rex
• If the creature in question is a subspecies, abbreviate both the generic and specific names.
• Example: Crocuta crocuta spelaea (cave hyena) to C. c. spelaea

Reclassified Creatures

If a creature featured in the Walking with... series has been reclassified by scientists (e.g. Tapejara navigans has been reclassified as Tupandactylus navigans since the airing of WWD) since their appearance in the series, do not rename the article and/or infobox title to the new name. Keep it as it was identified as in the Walking with... series to avoid confusion among readers and mention the creature's reclassification in the Errors section of the article. If the article lacks an Errors section, add one.

Episode articles

Note: This section is still under construction.

Episode articles are the second-most important articles on the wiki. They provide information on the episodes the creatures of the Walking With Series appear in.

• When creating an episode page, make sure it doesn't share the same title with another episode.
• If two episodes share the same title, specify the series the episodes are from.
• Example: Land of Giants is used as an episode title in both Chased by Dinosaurs and Walking With Beasts. To differentiate the two episode articles from each other, the title for one article is Land of Giants (Chased by Dinosaurs) while the title for the other article is Land of Giants (Walking with Beasts).
• At the start of each episode article, insert the "ItalicTitles" template to italicize the article title. To add the template, go into the Source editor and type ItalicTitles.
• There should be an infobox at the top of the article. As we have several individual infoboxes for each different category of article, it is important that you use the "Infobox episode" template. To insert it quickly, go into Source mode and type Infobox episode. You can then edit it easily in Visual mode.
• In the "image" section, insert an image of the episode's title card. To do this properly, you add: [[File:[insert file name].[insert file type]|270px]].
• In the series section, type in the series the episode was featured in. Make sure to link it to the series page and italicize it. To properly make a link to the "series" page, type Series Name in the "series" section.
• In the "no." section, type in the episode number.
• In the "animals" section, type in the names of the animals featured in the episode. Make sure to link them to the creature's page and italicize it.
• In the "run" section, type in the original broadcast date of the episode.
• In the "previous" section, type in the title of the previous episode. Make sure to link it to the previous episode's page and italicize it.
• In the "next" section, type in the title of the next episode. Make sure to link it to the next episode's page and italicize it.

Once the infobox has been set up, it is time to add some information.

• Every article should have a top description that gives a brief overview of the episode.
• The episode title should be bolded and italicized.
• Each article should have the following sections and sub-sections:
• Summary
• This section is optional.
• Full Synopsis
• Creatures
• Time & Location
• Time should be the stated time shown at the beginning of each episode. Use "Million Years Ago" or "Thousand Years Ago" as the unit.
• Location should be the stated location the episode's setting takes place at.
• If the episode features multiple time periods and/or locations, make a separate subsection.
• Alternate Versions
• Trivia
• Gallery
• Broadcast
• Original Airdate
• Repeats
